It would also have a chilling effect on officers who over the last two decades have been able to accomplish crime reduction that is the dream of every other big city. New York City has two United States attorneys, five independently elected district attorneys and a Civilian Complaint Review Board. An inspector general adds nothing but a new bureaucracy.
